For team socials, Friday wind-downs and away days
Games for a work social
Good work social games are quick to explain, need no sign-up and let everyone play at once, in the room or on a call. Punchline is a free meme caption game built that way: share one link, everyone plays on their own phone, and a game takes about 15 minutes, with a Safe memes only setting for work.

Why a caption game works at work
- Everyone plays every round. Nobody sits out waiting for their turn, and nobody is the designated quiz expert.
- Anonymous until it counts. Memes are revealed without names, so the new starter can beat the director fair and square.
- No general knowledge needed. There are no right answers, just the funniest one, so it doesn’t favour whoever reads the most news.
- It leaves in-jokes behind. The winning memes tend to turn up in the team chat for weeks. Press Save all memes at the end to keep them.
Ideas for different socials
- Friday wind-down: one game of 3 rounds with a 60-second timer, about ten minutes.
- Monthly team social: a full 5-round game, with the winner’s front page posted in the team chat.
- Across teams: give each team its own room code, play at the same time, then put each room’s winner into a final game.
- New starters: a short game is a gentle icebreaker. The team icebreaker guide has more on running it in a meeting.
- Remote or hybrid team: the same game runs alongside Teams, Zoom or Google Meet. See the guide to video call games.
How to start a game
- Open punchline.party, pick a name and press start.
- Tick Safe memes only in the lobby.
- Share the invite link in the team chat, or let people in the room scan the QR code.
- Choose the rounds and caption timer, then start once everyone’s in.
Making sure everyone’s included
Not everyone wants to write jokes in front of their manager, and that’s fine. Anyone with the invite link can choose Just watch and vote: they see every meme and vote on each one without writing captions. Each room takes up to 16 players and up to 50 in the audience. There are no accounts, so nobody has to hand over an email address, and no ads.
