How to play Punchline
Punchline is a meme caption party game you play in your browser with friends. Everyone captions a meme, everyone votes, and the funniest person wins. No ads, no sign-up, nothing to install.
- Start a gameOpen punchline.party, pick a name and a pixel critter, and press start. Send friends the invite link or the 4-letter code.
- Caption your memeEveryone gets a random template. Write the funniest caption you can before the candle burns down.
- Vote on every memeMemes appear one at a time, with no names. Vote thumbs up, meh or thumbs down.
- Crown the Meme KingGive your one crown a round to your favourite. Most points after the last round wins.
Scoring

You can't vote on your own meme, and memes left blank sit the vote out. The most-crowned meme each round is named Meme King of the round and lands in the Hall of fame.
Writing your caption
- Drag text boxes anywhere on the picture and pull the corner to resize them.
- Add up to six text boxes, and switch between white and black text.
- Don't like your meme? Reroll it. The host decides how many rerolls you get, up to 20 a round.
- Lock it in early, or keep tweaking until the timer runs out. Whatever you have written counts.
Host settings
Whoever starts the game is the host. They choose the number of rounds (1 to 10), the caption time (1 to 5 minutes), rerolls per round and which memes to use: all-time classics, trending, brand new, or animated GIFs.
Tips for a great game
- 4 to 10 players is the sweet spot. Two works, but chaos starts at three.
- Play on a video call or in the same room so everyone hears the reactions.
- At the end, press Save all memes to keep the best ones for the group chat.

What devices does it work on?
Any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Everyone can join from their own device with a link or a 4-letter room code.
How do you play?
Everyone gets a random meme template and writes the funniest caption they can before the timer runs out. Then every meme is shown anonymously and the group votes thumbs up, meh or thumbs down, and hands out Meme King crowns. The most points after the last round wins.

Punchline has a growing library of hundreds of meme templates, from all-time classics to this week's trending and brand-new templates and animated GIFs. New ones are added every week, and templates players keep skipping are retired.
